Syrinx pursued by Pan, transforms into water reeds. Narcissus, Clytie, Hyacinthus and Adonis become flowers, whereas Cyparissus and Myrrha turn into trees in consequence of various forms of love. Baucis and Philemon is an old couple who change into an intertwining pair of trees, one oak and one linden.

In the third book of Ovid's Metamorphoses, we find transformations that lead to various consequences, such as the founding of a city, violent death, and blindness and prophecy.

Metamorphoses, poem in 15 books, written in Latin about 8 ce by Ovid. It is written in hexameter verse. The work is a collection of mythological and legendary stories, many taken from Greek sources, in which transformation (metamorphosis) plays a role, however minor.
