Description

Tulipa sylvestris subsp. australis, the Wild Tulip, spreads by underground creeping horizontal runners (stolons).

A close relative of Tulipa sylvestris subsp. sylvestris, the flowers of which are entirely yellow.

Flowers

The flower is fragrant, borne on a reddish stem. The tepals are funnel-shaped, the outer 3 flushed with orange.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Basal leaves: 2-4, long, narrow and grooved, grey-green.
