A rough, hairy plant, stalks are often flushed with red.

Flowers

Flowers, 4-petalled, bright yellow or lemon yellow, in long racemes with spreading sepals.

Leaves

Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Deeply lobed, irregularly, almost to central midrib, with a large terminal lobe; stalked, dark green.

Fruits Seeds

Schizocarp: a dry pod, long, narrow and vertical, beaked, splitting into single seeded parts when ripe, 25-45 mm.

Edible

Leaves: young leaves have a pungent, mustard-like flavour.
Grains: pungent.

Medical

Seeds: similar properties to Sinapsis alba (White Mustard). It works as an antiseptic for the intestines and stimulates the pancreatic secretions.
