The blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) prefers woodlands, parks, gardens, farmland, and other open landscapes. Where blue tits live, they are often found in groups of up to 20 birds. Typically, males and females are together, but there are also groups of just males or females. They usually build their nests in tree cavities, but nest boxes are also commonly used. Blue tits typically build their nests with dry grass, moss, and small twigs. It typically takes about two weeks to complete the nest. Blue tits breed twice a year between April and July, laying about 7–15 eggs per clutch. The eggs hatch after about two weeks of incubation, and the young birds need about four more weeks to fledge. The lifespan of the blue tit is relatively short: on average, the species only manages to live up to five years old.
