Populus nigra 'Vereecken' has a columnar to oval crown with a straight trunk and steeply ascending, somewhat undulating branches. It grows somewhat broader than P. nigra 'Italica' but remains narrower than P. nigra 'Robusta'. The diamond-shaped to triangular leaves are green. The young leaves are brownish-green. In the autumn the leaves turn yellowish-green. Bears flowers in the form of male catkins. Used in wind breaks, as an avenue tree, in row plantings and landscapes. Suitable for coastal regions.
