Euphorbia rigida
The narrow, pointed, blue-gray to blue-green leaves spiraling around pale green fleshy stems and clusters of chartreuse flowers that appear on the stem tips make this a striking accent plant. The sulfurous-yellow flowers develop into small brown seedpods. Once the seedpods ripen the stems die back. Cut back dying stems and new stems will arise from the base, providing a rounded mound of foliage until the next flowering period. Likes afternoon shade, but can take a significant amount of sun, even in our low desert. It may self sow but is not invasive. A few small plants will make a nice clump in a few years. Has a low shrubby appearance, but can also be mass planted as a taller groundcover. Works well in rock gardens and containers.
