Description

A true Leucojum, (most closely related to Galanthus) and one of the two species (with tall species with hollow stems) left behind when Acis (dwarf species with solid stems) were split off into their own genus.  Leucojum vernum vagneri is a robust historical cultivar which carries two or more (green-tipped) flowers per scape (usually only one flower is borne in vernum).

As well as larger, more robust growths, this also has larger flowers. It does well in the garden, in a humus-enriched soil in light shade. This is no more vulnerable than say a garden Narcissus is but some light shade with a low canopy will help to deter the females of Narcissus fly from laying and plaguing you, as they prefer to lay in sun with no close canopy nearby.

Leucojum vernum makes a nice, well-mannered clump by offsetting in a reasonable time. We offer a vegetatively-propagated, true-to-name stock produced just in this way.
