Description

A close relative of a perhaps more famous Juno species – I. nicolai.

Ours have large white flowers, with a suffusion of blue-violet at the base of the flower. The falls have a large, imperial purple to dark purplish-violet blade with an orange crest. Both this and nicolai vary in colour and may overlap botanically, although they are very different and distinct horticulturally.

Vahsh seems initially to be quite similar to the Harangon strain, however we find that the colours in Vahsh are more sharply delimited and also this strain flowers very early in the year, long before Harangon is even thinking about showing you a bud.

It will grow outside, if well-drained and it then flowers before or with the earliest spring Crocus. One of the most attractive of the early Junos.
