Pulsatilla patens

Pulsatilla patens (Pasqueflower) is a very early bloomer. It emerges as soon as the snow melts and blooms soon after. Its blooms are bright blue and occasionally pink. It has ornamental seed pods. P. patens grows well in shady areas since it completes the majority of its life before leaves appear on the trees. It reaches a height from 8 to 16 inches depending on light conditions.
