Brown Cup - Rutstroemia firma

Description

This species is 0.5 to 1.5 cm across, cup shaped, expanding to a flattened and wavy shape, attached by a short stalk 2 to 3 mm long, inner surface ochraceous brown, outer similarly coloured and becoming wrinkled.

Habitat

On the dead and blackened wood of fallen branches, often on fallen oak branches.

When to see it

Autumn to early winter.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
