Using ecology to restore land and water
Sprengel’s sedge, also known as long-beaked sedge, is a woodland plant with attractive drooping seed heads. The seeds provide food for woodland birds such as wild turkey, ruffed grouse, and sparrows. The name “Sprengel” comes from the Prussian botanist Kurt Polykarp Joachim Sprengel, who conducted some of the first microscopic studies of plants. Sprengel’s sedge is a great plant for shady areas in gardens and home landscaping.
