STRIX ALUCO

The tawny owl (Strix aluco), is a bird of prey; has a very big head and has no auricular tufts. It blends perfectly into the forest, as its color may seem like the bark of a tree. It can reach the length of 38 cm, and the sexual dimorphism is characterized by the bigger size of the female. It is a nocturnal animal and is able to hunt from sunset to dawn thanks to its visual sensitivity and to the very fine hearing.

Distribution: widespread throughout Italy, and in most of Europe, Asia and North Africa
Feeding: small mammals are his favorite meal, especially mice.
