The Ural Owl (Strix uralensis) is a magnificent creature that can be found in various locations across Europe. In February, amidst the snowy landscape of Kuusamo, Finland, an adult Ural Owl was spotted resting peacefully on a tree branch. Its feathers blended seamlessly with the white surroundings, creating a stunning sight. In June, a juvenile Ural Owl was observed in Finland. This young owl showcased its fluffy plumage as it perched on a branch, eagerly exploring its surroundings. The lush greenery provided the perfect backdrop for this charming scene. Venturing further north to Lapland's Greater Laponia Rewilding Area, another Ural Owl could be seen majestically perched on a sturdy branch. Against the breathtaking wilderness of Lapland, this owl exuded an air of tranquility and grace. Traveling to Bavaria in Germany revealed yet another fascinating encounter with these owls. An adult Ural Owl stood proudly at the entrance of its nest within the hollowed trunk of a tree in Bavarian Forest National Park. This protected enclosure offered safety and shelter for these remarkable creatures. Even back in history, artists were captivated by the allure of these owls. A color lithograph from Charles Robert Bree's book depicted an exquisite illustration of an Ural Owl published in 1867—an homage to their timeless beauty. Moving forward to Sweden's Bergslagen region in June 2009 brought us closer than ever before to these captivating birds. Through detailed portraits and close-ups captured during this time, we gained insight into their intricate features and piercing gaze—truly mesmerizing. Returning once again to Kuusamo Finland—a place seemingly made for them—the snowy trees became home to yet another striking image: an Ural Owl perched gracefully against nature's wintry canvas. Journeying southward towards Poland's Bieszczady National Park allowed us one final glimpse of these magnificent creatures.
