Club-like Tuning Fork - Calocera cornea

Habitat: Growing on a fallen, decorticated sycamore (Platanus occidentalis)

  1. I'd say Calocera sp. over Mucronella - Mucronella hangs down like icicles and has more pointed tips. Calocera cornea seems the most likely. There are some other Caloceras that would probably look the same at that size, but they grow on conifer wood rather than hardwoods. Posted 2 years ago

"Calocera cornea" is a jelly fungus that grows on decaying wood. It is a member of the Dacrymycetales, an order of fungi characterized by their unique "tuning fork" basidia.
