A mass of small pale fungal caps (4-6mm across) emerging from depressions in tree bark in damp woodland making interesting patterns. I thoght these were the saprophytes of a slime mould initially as I've found quite similar looking ones, but this arrangement on a tree trunk and the precise shape and texture of them seems a much better match for the Fenugreek stall ball, a little recoded (just 127 NBN records) but likely much overlooked fungus: https://www.jeremybartlett.co.uk/2017/11/23/fenugreek-stalkball-phleogena-faginea/. There re a few more examples on ispot that look very similar.
