Previously thought to be Pohlia melanodon and I have deleted that post to update it here. I revisited the specimen and photographs and found them to be rather odd, not fitting Pohlia after all. The moss is definitely part of the Bryales, however. I was casually keeping an eye out for this species as I know it occurs at this location, but it was far smaller than I expected, and I did not expect to find it along the main footpath on some damp stone behind a bench. The colonies were quite well established, but I feel bad about taking some and am going to put my sample, although rather small, back where it belongs as this is a red data species and only occurs in this location in the whole of the UK.
