Diphylleia cymosa (Berberidaceae)

$15.00

The American umbrella plant is a native to the woods of Southeastern North America, it is however, perfectly hardy here. The large 12in to 16in leaves unfurl in the spring and remain attractive all summer. The white flower forms atop the almost tropical looking leaves and matures into an attractive clump of blue berries on a red stem. Spreads slowly. Related to polyphylla, or the mayapple but more showy. Rarely found in the nursery trade but makes a nice addition to the native woodland garden.
