Diplotaxis tenuifolia or Wild Rocket is an upright mustard style plant with pungent, spicy tasting leaves that are grown for salads and herbal garnishes.
Usually mixed with other small salad leaves and lettuce, it has become very popular for mesclun style salads and is cultivated commercially around the world.
Wild rocket goes well in any herb garden but also makes a splendid edging to pathways that have deep borders alongside, especially when in bloom with its pretty yellow flowers.
Seeding itself very easily this plant is often seen growing wild beside the road and railway tracks but is still worth cultivating as a very useful and tasty salad or herb.
As with a lot of herbs, they also make good border plants, this on in particlalr as it attracts bees like no other plant.
