Viscum album
European mistletoe
Description
It is a semi-parasite, as it has a green part and can provide some nutrients by itself. However, it takes water and mineral substances from the host tree. European mistletoe has white fruits and leaves do not fall. The fruits are almost spherical, false berries of white color. The fruit contains a milky mucilaginous sticky pulp and one seed. Its evergeen branches are used as a decoration for Christmas in some countries of Europe. It often grows on apple trees, poplars, firs, oaks and other trees. A similar species is Yellow mistletoe (Loranthus europaeus), which you can find mostly on deciduous trees, especially oaks. Striking especially after leaf fall (it is a deciduous species) with lots of yellow fruits.
