(1/320th sec at f14. © David Hastings) DescriptionFamily: Noctuidae Wing span: 20 - 24mm This moth has an intricately patterned forewing, with white marks on a reddish-brown background. The hindwing is yellow, with a broad black border. It is common in suitable habitat throughout the British Isles. Habitats are acid heathland and moorland. There are two probably over-lapping generations in southern England, from late April to August. Elsewhere there is one generation from May to July. Larvae feed on the terminal shoots of Heather and Bell Heather. It flies low over heathers in sunshine, and feeds at flowers. Sightings
