Description

Family: Geometridae

Wing span: 28 - 38mm

This is a highly variable species, and some forms are very similar to the Dark Marbled Carpet. In southern England these species aren't on the wing at the same time. Ssp truncata has a large, light brown central patch on the fore-wing.

It can be found throughout the British Isles.

It can be found in many habitats, including gardens, parks, broadleaved woodland, scrub, hedgerows etc.

There are two generations per year in most places, May to June, and late August to October. At higher latitudes or altitudes, usually only one generation in July/August.

Larvae feed on many woody and herbaceous plants.
