Ural Falsespirea
COMMON NAME | Ural Falsespirea |
BOTANICAL NAME * | Sorbaria sorbifolia |
ZONE | 2 – 7 (8) |
SIZE | Can grow to 5’ – 10’ HT & SP, but frequently kept much smaller. With judicious pruning, it will have a nice soft appearance. |
FOLIAGE | Each leaflet has defined, parallel veins that lend it a unique texture. The outstanding feature is the foliage color in the spring. Early to emerge, the leaves are tinged with red or pink. The foliage has a nice medium green for summer. |
FLOWER | Small, white flowers in fleecy panicles. Not terribly showy. |
FRUIT | Rarely noticed. |
GROWING CONDITIONS | Moist well drained soil. In dry soil, it tends to become dwarfed. Full Sun to Part Shade. |
NOTES | Sorbaria sorbifolia ‘Sem’ is the only cultivar I have observed. Though not on any lists, this may be Deer Resistant. I know of success in 2 gardens with visiting deer. |
