Long-Lasting Cut Flower

The thick flower stalks of this plant are excellent for harvesting as a cut flower, and the blooms will retain their color and form for up to 2 weeks in the vase!

Bellflower (Campanula Glomerata Superba)

Bellflower seeds are quite rewarding to grow and they establish into a hardy, reliable perennial that makes a great addition to any flower bed. Adored by hummingbirds and butterflies, Bellflower Superba blooms profusely in the early summer. These flowers grow in clusters atop tall stalks, with each flower cluster sporting up to 15 separate blossoms.

Bellflower is quite popular, and this variety is a winner of the Award of Golden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. It has a clumping growth habit and can reach up to 28 inches in height. This is a low-maintenance plant that is free of most pests, including deer and rabbits. Bellflower superba has a variety of uses, and can be planted individually or en masse. This plant spreads quite vigorously, and can thus be grown as a thick groundcover.

How To Grow

If starting indoors, sow seeds 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. These seeds require light to germinate, so lightly press them into the soil without covering. Use a sterile starter mix, and keep the seeds moist until germination.

These seeds can also be sown directly outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Sow the seeds into a prepared seedbed and lightly press into the soil. The seeds will germinate in 14-28 days under proper conditions.

Once this plant is established, it should be divided every 3-4 years to maintain vitality. It prefers full sun in moist, fertile soil.
