Description: Tiny with black mask.
Adult: Male: pale gray head with black mask, red-brown back, and pale brown-yellow underparts. Female: duller, browner head and upperparts.
Juvenile: Grayish head lacking mask; orange-brown back.
Habitat: Poplars and willows along rivers and lakes, reedbeds.
Food: Insects.
Nest: Hanging oval basket of plant fibers and down with short entrance tube, in trees.
Eggs: 16 mm, 6-8, white.
