The myxomycete genus Colloderma and the species Colloderma oculatum are reported for the first time in Central America. The species was recorded at high elevations in the Talamanca Mountain Range in Costa Rica during 2014 in a location where the structure of myxomycete assemblages has been historically associated with temperate rather than tropical communities. Comments on the geographical distribution and ecology of the species are included. This record has increased the number of Costa Rican myxomycetes to 213 according to the most updated checklist.

Biodiversity survey for myxomycetes in the mountains of central Cuba2008 •

The results of a biodiversity survey for myxomycetes, carried out in montane rainforests of the Ecological Reserve “Alturas de Banao” in the Macizo Guamuahaya Mountains of central Cuba, are reported here. The survey yielded more than 200 field collections of myxomycetes, and 56 species were identified, from these field collections and moist chamber culture collections. Amongst these were 23 species recorded for the first time from Cuba: Arcyria afroalpina, A. globosa, Badhamia melanospora, Ceratiomyxa sphaerosperma, Clastoderma debaryanum, Collaria lurida, Comatricha laxa, C. nigra, C. tenerrima, Craterium concinnum, Cribraria microcarpa, C. tenella, Diderma corrugatum, Didymium iridis, Echinostelium bisporum, E. minutum, Hemitrichia pardina, Licea bulbosa, L. erecta var. erectoides, L. scyphoides, Perichaena vermicularis, Physarum crateriforme, and P. galbeum, Dead leaves of the palm Roystonea regia were an especially productive substrate for myxomycetes, with members of the Trichi...

During a three week period in late November and early December 1998, the assemblage of myxomycetes associated with cloud forests in the Maquipucuna Cloud Forest Reserve (western Andes, Ecuador) was investigated by means of field collecting and substratum sampling for subsequent preparation of moist chamber cultures. From more than 1000 myxomycete records (with about half of these from moist chamber cultures), 77 taxa were identified with certainty; 30 of these are new for the country. Taxonomic descriptions and ecological observations of rare and or tentatively new taxa encountered in the study are provided in an annotated checklist. The frequency distribution of the 67 taxa identified from field records can be described by a log normal model. This allows an estimation of the total number of species to be expected, and the number actually recorded represents about 92% of this estimated figure. Using a bootstrap method with a saturation model, the same type of estimate was determined...

Biodiversity of myxomycetes in subantarctic forests of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, Argentina2010 •
Myxomycetes have been studied formally in most of Central America except for El Salvador. Even though this country is the last in the region to begin an official inventory for this group of organisms, the 37 new records reported herein suggest that the myxobiota of El Salvador can be valuable for biogeographical analyses. As an example, this study reports Perichaena tessellata for the first time in the Neotropical region. Such an observation along with studies conducted in previous years in Central America show that the Mesoamerican biodiversity hotspot can provide important information to understand myxomycete dynamics in tropical areas. Additionally to the latter, during the present study a first characterization of the species of myxomycetes present in Montecristo National Park was also carried out. This is an important contribution to the biological knowledge of critical conservation areas in Central America since such park is one of the few remnants of cloud forest in El Salvad...

Most of the species of myxomycetes from Mexico are well documented, but their patchy geographical and temporal distribution responds to the individual efforts carried out in different areas of the territory over time. As such, even for well-studied areas, new projects can substantially increase biodiversity-based information. The present study constitutes an update of the myxomycete catalog of the state of Veracruz, carried out from an intensive study in a section of Abies religiosa at the Cofre de Perote National Park. The methodology consisted in field collections, complemented with a laboratory isolation process using diverse substrates from different locations. The study was carried out in two years (2018-2019) and in two seasons (dry and rainy). A total of 30 taxa were identified, out of which, 21 species were not previously known for the state of Veracruz, increasing the number of myxomycetes known in such state to 168 species, making it one of the most diverse states in Mexico, with approximately 45% of the known species in the country.

Thirty-one species of myxomycetes from the protected area Sierra de Alamos Rio Cuchujaqui were studied. Fifteen taxa are new records for the Mexican state of Sonora: Cribraria fragilis, Diachea bulbillosa, D. leucopodia, Diderma effusum, D. hemisphaericum, Fuligo megaspora, Licea castanea, Oligonema schweinitzii, Physarella oblonga, Physarum auriscalpium, P. bogoriense, P. cinereum, P. viride, Stemonaria longa and Stemonitis mussooriensis. Including these new records, eighty-one taxa have now been described for the Sonoran myxobiota. The species studied are discussed and photomicrographs of their macroand microscopic characters are provided for some of them.
