Monkshood is a showy perennial flowering in summer. The flowers are indigo blue, formed in erect racemes on stems that can be 1.5 tall. Individual flowers open up from July and continue as the stems grow taller until end August. Leaves are deeply lobed, almost dissected, mid green, very ornamental. A favourite cut flower.
This plant belongs to original plants in Central Europe. It grows wildly in sub alpine, party shaded edges of woodlands and at riversides. All parts are highly poisonous.It grows in almost any moist soil. It prefers semi-shade but will grow well in full sun, too. Fertilizing is not necessary but may enhance flowering. Fully hardy.
