Scapania subalpina (Nees ex Lindenb.) Dumort.

Family: Scapaniaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Jungermannia subalpina Nees ex Lindb.
Martinellius subalpinus (Nees ex Lindb.) Trevis

Scapania subalpina is a complicate bilobed leafy liverwort. In Scapania, the smaller lobule is on top of the lobe. In most leafy liverworts, the smaller lobule in beneath the lobe. In Scapania subalpina, the lobe and lobule are similar in size (subequal). The plants are large, 2-4mm wide. They are pale green and the margin is finely denticulate. We found Scapania subalpina on rock and soil alongside a stream at upper elevation mixed with Pellia epiphylla. Please click on an image for a larger file.
