Peltigera collina (Ach.) Schrader
Tree Pelt

Peltigera collina is a large foliose lichen that is loosely attached to its substrate. Wet or dry, it is brown in color. The undersurface has a network of low, relatively broad brown veins. Apothecia are uncommon. According to Brodo et al., "This is the only Peltigera with marginal soredia". The undersurface is white with wide brown veins and bundles of dark brown to black rhizoids, but no well-organized lower cortex. We found Peltigera collina at middle elevation in mixed conifer forest on a mossy outcrop.
