Ranatra linearis uses its predatory forelegs to grasp the prey item.
After probing the prey surface with the rostrum the insertion of the stylets and sucking takes place.
From time to time, the forelegs are used to change the stylet insertion place: here, first, a leg is sucked out, later the head of the mayfly larva.
