Ground Crab Spider

In the spider family first you have Entelegynes - the main group of spiders. Within that you have Crab Spiders - Thomisidae. Then the genus is xysticus which is for the ground crab spiders.

Ground Crab Spiders have black and yellow stripes on their main body, like a bumble bee. Their front part is dark brown. Their legs are dark brown on the top half and pale tan on the bottom half.

Note that ground crab spiders can have variations on the pattern on their back, so look through all the photos to see if any resemble the spider you're interested in.

Ground Crab Spider / Thomisidae xysticus

This next set of photos are from a ground crab spider we found in our driveway, there was a pair of them. We've been told by BugGuide that the pronounced stripes are interesting. See how they are more solidly striped than the previous one?
