Water Lilies Nymphaeaceae
Water Lilies are EMERGENT flowers (they emerge from the shallow water). They are usually rooted in sediment, or in garden ponds sometimes a pot of submerged dirt will be visible from the surface.
"The white water lily is the national flower of Bangladesh and state flower for Andhra Pradesh, India." Wikipedia
Water Lilies differ from Lotus Flowers. Water Lilies FLOAT on the surface of the water.
In California, their season is usually mid July, but I took these photos in the beginning of June.
Water Lilies are in the Angiosperm family and can be pollinated from the wind, bees, flies or beetles.
Photos are my own.
