3 Wide variety of habitas Mostly ground level or subterranean Moles live underground Eat mainly insects and some invertebrates Require a lot of energy to survive

4 Behavior and Reproduction Nocturnal Poor eyesight Communicate with squeaks, hisses, whistles, buzzes Defense is to stay hidden Hedgehogs use spines Some shrews have venom Almost all species are active year round Remain alone all year until breeding Males leave before offspring are born Most have a gestation period of around 20 days
