Didymodon fallax

English name: False beard-moss

An acrocarpous moss that grows in loose patches that consist of brownish, orange or dull green shoots. When moist, the leaves are spreading or recurved, when dry, the leaves tend to twist.

In Scotland, Didymodon fallax is widespread in lowland and coastal areas where it is found beside tracks and in quarries, by water courses, in fixed dunes and in shallow soil on top of walls. BBS distribution map
