Tire rim protector damage on PS2
I understand this part of the wheel is quite thick and primarily for protecting the rim from small impacts. Is this tire still useable? Damage is 1.5 cm in width and 0.8 cm deep. Seeking opinions of people who KNOW tires only, Thanks in advance.

It appears to be either damaged from impact such as a pothole or similiar. If that is not the issue then it could be a a defect. It is really difficult to tell in the photos. You clould attempt to contact Michelin and they will have it looked at by a local tire shop. The shop will call them while on site and Michelin will determine whether to approve or deny replacement. If you have enough tire tread then it could be replaced for free or pro-rated.
Maybe someone else can chime in.
Looking at it again: I see what appears to be damaged to the rim at that damage on the tire as well. I would have to intially lean towards impact damage.
Good luck!

Looks just like - edit looks minor- compared to the front tire on my 996. I just took box cutter and sliced the 'hangnail' off. Been good for over a year.
ain't pretty, is it?

@JW911 If I don't push or pull on it, the piece of rubber sits flush with the rest of the tire. pulling or pulling it up revels more rubber on the bottom, no signs of weavings or other materials.
