Pale Prominent Pterostoma palpina

Forewing length 18-25 mm. A very distinctive moth, very slender and well camouflaged to look like a fragment of wood. Note the large upturned palps at the front, and the twin tufted tail of the male. The larva feeds on poplar and sallows. The adult flies from May to August in two generations, and can be seen in various habitats, including woodland and gardens. Fairly frequent throughout southern Britain, less so further north.
