Family Conopidae – Thick-headed Flies

24 UK species, 7 genera. Also referred to as Conopid flies, they are wasp-like, and the larvae are parasitic to wasps and bees. The females lay their eggs on the hosts which hatch into grubs which devour the bee or wasp from the inside. The adults feed on nectar.
