Species Information
Length 3-4 mm. This is one of three species of yellow ladybird in the UK, and it has the brightest yellow of the three. Bright lemon ground colour with 20-22 black spots. The only species of ladybird in Britain where the larva, the pupa and the adult are all the same colour and pattern.
It feeds on mildew that develops on the upper surface of the leaves of Hogweed and other umbellifers, amongst other herbaceous plants.
Seen April to August. It can be found in various habitats, including grasslands, roadside verges and occasinally in woodland. Common and widespread throught Britain, less so in Scotland.
