Anthony Anderson Jokes He's 'Not as Young as I Used to Be' After Movie Stunt 'Gone Wrong' Sent Him to ER

Anthony Anderson is in good spirits after a movie set injury landed him in the hospital.

On Instagram Thursday, the 53-year-old actor posted a photo of himself smiling while lying on a hospital gurney, writing that a movie stunt "gone wrong" resulted in an injury.

"I spent the night in the emergency room. Movie set fight gone wrong. Me against two goons and a chair! Guess who didn’t win!" joked Anderson. "Who needs a stuntman? Me that’s who! I’m not as young as I used to be!"

The actor shared that he had a CT scan and X-rays that "showed nothing fractured or broken in my back just a deep contusion."

"That chair will never be the same though! Bloodied and bowed but never broken!" he added. In another post, Anderson shared a photo of the chair "that whooped my ass last night!"

"Something about it is menacing!" he wrote. "It sucker punched me in the kidneys and back with no mercy! When I got on set today it was grinning at me! Little does he know I got something for that ass! He gone learn today!"

In the comment section of his hospital photo, Anderson's Black-ish costar Tracee Ellis Ross wrote, "you are not made of rubber. Im so glad you are ok."

Anderson, who hosted the Emmy Awards last month, is currently filming the movie G20, which also stars Viola Davis, Clark Gregg, Antony Starr, plus Anderson's Black-ish costar Marsai Martin. Per Deadline, the thriller is about terrorists taking over the G20 Summit, and the U.S. president (Davis) steps up to protect her family and other world leaders.

Sharing his casting news in January, Anderson wrote on Instagram, "Excited to be a part of this amazing film with the incomparable @violadavis and my outstanding cast mates."

Back in 2019, Anderson told Backstage the advice he'd give to his younger self: "Never give up, never compromise who you are, always believe in yourself, and know it’s not the end of it all."

"Understand that you are in the business of rejection and the business of 'no.' Eventually someone will say 'yes,' " he added about an acting career. "What we do is subjective anyway. As long as you are prepared and you did the job to the best of your ability, you can go to sleep at night."

"Always be prepared because you never know when that window of opportunity is going to present itself. Stay ready so you don’t waste time getting ready," continued Anderson. "You can’t will it any sooner than when it’s destined to come. Never be in competition with another person because you don’t know their journey. Be competitive with yourself, but never with another person."
