Taxonomy: Fam. Compositae// Genus: Cyanus// Species: Cyanus segetum Hill.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in Flora Europaea Vol. 4 (Tutin et al., 1976) as Centaurea cyanus L. The accepted name in The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Greuter, 2006+) is Cyanus segetum Hill.

Lifeform: Annual; therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to Southeast Europe, Central and Eastern Mediterranean according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Habitat: Open habitats- grasslands, ruderal areas, near orchards, cultivated land, roadsides.

Flowering period: Late spring- early summer: MAY, JUN.
