Digitalis grandiflora – Large Yellow Foxglove

This Digitalis grandiflora is planted in the dry shade beneath the Snow Gum.  A very accommodating plant as it will grow in almost any position except perhaps desert or bog.  Its common name, Large Yellow Foxglove, is because it is a large, yellow foxglove.  Unlike our native annual foxglove it is a short-lived perennial which is extremely easy to grow from seed.  Unless you are very lucky/clever it is unlikely to flower in the first year, but hang on in there and you will be rewarded with these spikes of butter yellow flowers freckled within.  Just don’t eat them or you may well become an even shorter lived perennial.

No comment on your lovely yellow foxglove. Had to think of you last week when seeing Monty Don and RHS-woman talking about not enough people do professional gardening work. It might have something to do with bad PR form LOL Cameron, saying something about gardening for unemployed? Ever heard of that?
