  • Deciduous tree, usually 40-50 ft tall, 20-30 ft wide, may have a wider spread, pyramidal when young to nearly rounded when mature.  Leaves alternate, simple, ovate to elliptic-ovate, 5-10 cm long, with 6-10 pairs of veins, tip short acuminate, round at base, margin unequally serrate, glabrous (without hairs) above, glabrous or slightly pubescent below.  Flowers 1 cm across, usually 2 styles, 6-10 per loose cluster.  Fruit subglobose, 8 mm across, reddish pink to yellow when mature, may persist after leaf fall.

  • Hardy to USDA Zone 4      Native to central China, Korea and Japan.
