Growing form
Perennial herb.
Size
60–150 cm high.
Stem
The stem is branched in the upper part, finely striate, glabrate and the pith is continuous. The are remnants of leaves are the base of the stem.
Leaf
The leaf arrangement is spiral. The leaves are petiolate and the base of the petiole is sheath-like and loose. The lamina is deltoid and biternate. The leaflets are ovate – lanceolate, cordate, serrate and blue-green.
Flower
The inflorescence is a compound umbel with 20–40 umbellets. The bracts of the involucre are rather large, and the bractlets of the involucels are acicular and inconspicuous. The flowers are bisexual and actinomorphic (occasionally the outer most flowers can be slightly zygomorphic). The corolla is five-leaved. The sepals are reduced. The petals are white (occasionally light pink) and involute at the apex. There are five stamens and a pistil with two stigmas in a flower.
Fruit and seed
The fruit is a broadly elongate – ellipsoid, compressed on the dorsal side, two-sectioned, low-ridged, broad- and wavy-alate, light brown, 5–10 mm long schizocarp.
