Growing form

Perennial, delicate herb.

Size

4–15 cm high.

Stem

The tuber is 1–2.5 cm long, globose and filled with continuous pith. The stem is fleshy and fragile.

Leaf

The leaf arrangement is spiral. The lamina is compound. There are two stem leaves that are ternate or biternate. There is one scale-like cataphyll near the ground surface, and there is often a lateral branch at the axil of the cataphyll.

Flower

The raceme is short and bears 1–10 flowers. The bracts are simple, obovate and rather obtuse. The corolla is about 15 mm long and purple. The apex of the lower lip is 4 mm wide. The spur is 6–10 mm long and straight – slightly curved.

Fruit and seed

The capsule is compressed, rather lanceolate and thrice as long as its stalk (15–20 mm).
