Description
Erect rhizomes are covered with dark brown scales. Arching light green fronds are once- pinnate, lanceolate. Lower pinnae are slightly smaller and point downward and forward.
Sori are in 2 or 3 rows on each side of the midribs near the margins. Indusia are black. Spores are dark brown and disperse in June and July. Easy to propagate from spores. Cut back fronds in late winter. Does best when planted in a rich humusy soil in light shade to shade.
Similar to Dryopteris cycadina, may be a hybrid between cycadina and Dryopteris dickinsii. Epithet is named after the Namegata region of Japan.
