I had two small bulbs which did well in their pots so I planted them in the ground in a semi-shaded place. They did well for a start but after two very dry summers they seem to have disappeared. They prefer damp conditions, often growing amongst grass, and dislike soil which is too acidic. I do have acidic soil but they were planted with plenty of leaf compost so I think it was a case of being too dry.

    D. maculata is very similar to this, the flower spikes are not as tall and the lower lip on D. maculata is more rounded with a less protruding central part. The leaves of both species can be spotted or not, but D. fuchsii has more elongated spots going sideways across the leaves.
