Northwest native deciduous shrub 3-4′ tall. Found along margins of bogs, estuaries, and lakes; leaves emit sweet scent when rubbed. Coppices quickly after disturbance, waxy fruits eaten by birds in winter. Tolerates salt spray in shoreline plantings.
