Summary

Description
English: A fungus - Nectria peziza. From a distance, this looks like an orange patch on wood, but a closer look reveals that it is a scattering of tiny orange globes that are no more than half a millimetre across, but still clearly visible to the naked eye. Each globe has a tiny dark dot at the top, where it has an opening. These fruiting bodies are globular, but can collapse into a cup shape when dry.

Compare another common Nectria species: 1009633.

The example shown in this photograph was growing on the trunk of a tree that stands beside a footpath.
