(Solanum nigrum) Annual in the Nightshade Family, native to Eurasia. Upright growth habit, to 12-24” tall. Reflexed petals of white blossoms shamelessly expose a grip of stamens clutching a coyly retracted style. Fruit green, maturing to inky black. “Has a long and well-established history as a food source for numerous cultures around the globe” (Forager’s Harvest) but due to controversy about its safety, we are listing it under Flowers, not Vegetables, and are offering it as an ornamental plant, not an edible one. Do your own research and decide for yourself!
Planting suggestions: Thrives in disturbed soils, especially old gardens. Full sun. Direct-sow after the Final Frost when the soil has warmed. Thin to 18-24” apart.
