I've got a self set Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) growing in the garden which I love and so do the bees. Just noticed a colourful caterpillar munching away on the flower buds and blending in well with the yellow flowers of the Verbascum. It's about 40 mm long. Any idea what it is?

I think you've almost answered this one yourself Tony. Your wriggly muncher looks like the caterpillar of a Mullein Moth.Perhaps have a look HERE for further info. Cracking shots by the way.

Brilliant, thanks Paul, you've cracked it. The clue was in the food plant all along, I never thought of that. LOL
EDIT the adult doesn't look too exciting but they can't all be glamorous..
I don't think it looks too bad!!
Such a coincidence TJ as I have one of these too ... my poor little Mullein plant never got off the ground though, when I found the caterpillar munching away I decided to sacrifice the plant for the opportunity of getting a chrysalis but was under the misapprehension of thinking it was a White Butterfly one.
Here's my one
The poor plant is decimated & if it's still hungry wonder if it make it's way to the buddleia?
