Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa (Coral Slime)
This slime mould consists of simple or slightly branched stems, from 1 to several millimetres tall, commonly white but other colours have been reported.
In most slime moulds the spores are held within capsules but those of Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa are external and held up on short stalks along the stems. In good light and with a hand lens of at least 10 times magnification, you may see some roughness or bumpiness along the stems, caused by those protruding spores.
This species is found worldwide in a variety of natural or modified habitats.
